COACHING COMMITTMENT

IGLA practices are 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes during the week. Games are on Sunday afternoons. HS coaches assigned to a specific team are asked to attend all practices and games for that team. Parent volunteer coaches and adult guest coaches discuss availability and scheduling with the Location Director at the start of the season.

COACHING OPPORTUNITIES

Parent Volunteer Coaches

IGLA is a non-profit that relies on parent volunteers. Parent volunteer coaches do not need playing or coaching experience; IGLA provides all the training necessary. In addition, parent volunteer coaches work alongside knowledgeable HS coaches. Parent volunteer coaches qualify for a rebate of player fees for that season.

High School-Aged Coaches (Current players)

HS-aged coaches provide lacrosse instruction using IGLA practice plans, serve as a role models for the players, and are assisted by parent volunteer coaches in running practices and games. HS-aged coaches have the option to earn service hours.

College Aged Coaches (Current and former collegiate players)

College-aged coaches instruct players at all levels and assist parent volunteers and high school aged coaches.

Adult Coaches (Former collegiate players)

Adult coaches typically coach the Purple level or guest coachIn addition, adult coaches help train parent volunteer coaches.

COACHING REQUIREMENTS

US Lacrosse Level 1 Online Course

The Level 1 Clinic brings the Level 1 online course to life through hands-on training facilitated by US Lacrosse-certified trainers. The curriculum is designed to introduce coaches to the responsibilities and philosophies of coaching and how to provide a safe and athlete-centered environment that emphasizes positive growth and sportsmanship. You’ll acquire the tools to teach rules, basic individual skills and basic team concepts to beginning players of all ages. This baseline training is relevant for all lacrosse coaches, regardless of experience.

*Coaches who attend a Level 1 Live Workshop (held annually in January/February) are exempt from the online course.

US Lacrosse Membership

Most US Lacrosse e-learning courses and their resources are free for US Lacrosse members. In addition, members of US Lacrosse receive Insurance coverage; subscription to Lacrosse Magazine; how-to videos, articles, clinics and more for players and coaches; access to first-class playing opportunities; discounts on tickets to college and pro games; members-only emails with special offers on gear, apparel and more.

IGLA Preseason Clinics

New coaches are required to attend one of our Preseason Clinics held a few weeks before the season begins in select locations throughout Chicagoland. Please contact your community director to decide which clinic location you should attend.

Conference Call

All coaches are required to participate in a conference call held on the first Sunday of the season. The conference call is led by IGLA Director Michelle Sebastian (DI Vanderbilt, IGLA Director of Coaching, Lakeshore Lacrosse Director of Coaching.) Please call in to IGLA conference line number 641-715-0861 and enter access code 330773#. Calls are as follows:

Spring Season: April 9th, 7:30pm
Fall Season: September 10th, 7:00pm
